Tom Steyer Echoes Clean and Prosperous Report, Calls for Reauthorization and Extension

Tom Steyer’s Op-Ed, “California can’t afford to let its cap-and-trade program expire,” echoes the key findings of our latest report, including findings on foregone revenue, the need for swift reauthorization and strenghthening of the program to correct course, and the broader importance of the program for the state of California.

Specifically, Steyer describes cap-and-trade as “one of California’s most important economic tools” and explains that “when the rules are unclear or the future uncertain, private investment dries up and California’s leadership role slips.” Steyer concludes that California should “get cap-and-trade reauthorization done and make sure the middle class doesn’t pay the price for legislative inaction.”
