Clean and Prosperous California Executive Director Clayton Munnings was quoted in The Sacramento Bee as California lawmakers worked to finalize a deal to extend the state’s cap-and-trade program before a key deadline. Governor Gavin Newsom signaled support for reauthorizing the program through 2045, but negotiations among legislative leaders remained down to the wire.

Munnings said uncertainty over the program’s future was already affecting the carbon market. “Any notion that the Legislature might not be committed to the program beyond 2030 has a huge impact on today’s allowance prices,” he said, as business groups urged lawmakers not to rush a last-minute deal.
